Engineering Department

The Engineering Division is responsible for administering several grant activities including the Chapter 90 program. This is a program whereby the state provides funds for the reconstruction of streets and sidewalks. The city develops the list of streets to be reconstructed and signs a contract with the lowest pre-qualified bidder. The city then pays the contractor and is then 100% reimbursed by the state. The Engineering Division is primarily responsible for planning and overseeing improvements to our City’s vital transportation infrastructure. Each year we direct the design and oversee reconstruction of numerous City streets, drainage systems, and sidewalks.

The Division oversees all private Drainlayers that work within the City’s right of ways or that make a connection to a City owned sewer or water main. Our office maintains a list of Drainlayers that are licensed to install and repair water and sewer lines that connect a home or businesses to City utilities.

The Division oversees the permitting, installation and removal of driveways, curbing and sidewalks.

The Division maintains and makes available the following maps and records:

  • Assessor Maps
  • Zoning Map
  • Census Tract Map
  • City Street Map
  • Individual Street Layout Maps
  • Individual Street Sewer Maps
  • Sewer Connection Information
  • Limited Historical Land Use Information

The Division administers the “Site Plan Review” process which governs the construction of homes, additions, garages, parking facilities, multi-family apartment buildings, commercial and industrial buildings/developments etc.

The Division is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the City’s GIS system as well as the assigning of addresses numbers.
