Minimum Housing

The Fall River Minimum Housing Office enforces the state sanitary code 105 CMR 410.000: Minimum Standards of Fitness for Human Habitation, and select public health related City ordinances. Minimum Housing Inspectors respond to tenant complaints, perform inspections and issue orders to correct deficiencies in dwelling units. They also enforce local laws pertaining to litter, trash and unsanitary conditions on private property. If you have a complaint that may be a violation of minimum housing standards, call 508-324-2541.

We advocate for health, safety and welfare of the residents of our community by safeguarding that structural integrity, utility installation and maintenance, and safe and sanitary conditions are maintained, thereby alleviating urban blight, decay, and substandard housing stock.

The Inspectional Services Department is mandated by local ordinances and state law to fulfill very specific rules and regulations regarding the safe construction of buildings, certifications of structures – residential and commercial, habitability of dwelling units, enforcement of state sanitary codes, testing of weighing devices, signage, and occupancy permits as well as enforcing the City of Fall River Zoning Ordinances.
